Holographic Television

MIT's holographic image

MIT is bringing us one step close to holographic television, but don’t throw away your 3D set and geeky glasses yet!  The scientists at MIT are using mostly consumer level devices and one of their secret devices (of course) to generate what looks to me like a very primitive holographic version of the famous holographic message from Star Wars sent to Obi Wan from Princess Leah.  One of the cool things about holographic television is that it will not require special glasses.  1.5 gigabytes per second are being generated on the fly to compute this image and while it is hard to get excited about a red blob, it is still one step closer to my nerdy nirvana of a holographic experience in my living room.
